Hello everyone, first off let me say that I'm VERY excited for this weekends games! Our women are hosting Kamloops RFC at 11:30 in a Lower Mainland Bowl Semi final match and Our Men's 1st + Prems travel to Connaught Park to take on (And hopefully hand a beating to) the Meralomas.
This Thursday after training our club Secretary, and noted Latino Princess, Becky Querido is making some Taco's! As most of you know Becky is descended from a long line of Mexican legends. Her great-great grandfather Pancho Villa seized hacienda land for distribution to peasants and soldiers. He robbed and commandeered trains and, like the other revolutionary generals, printed fiat money to pay for his cause. Villa's men and supporters became known as Villistas during the revolution from 1910 to roughly 1920.
Villa's dominance in northern Mexico was broken in 1915 through a series of defeats he suffered at Celaya<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Celaya> and Agua Prieta at the hands of Alvaro "Bell" Obregon and Plutarco Elias Calles. After Villa's famous raid on Columbus, New Mexico, in 1916, US Army General John J. Pershing tried unsuccessfully to capture Villa in a nine-month pursuit that ended when the United States entered into WW 1 and Pershing was called back. Villa retired in 1920 and was given a large estate, which he turned into a "military colony" for his former soldiers. In 1923, he decided to get into the Taco business with a string of quick serve/high quality Taco restaurants in the Southern states and as a result was assassinated, most likely on the orders of Obregon who had plans to open a competing chain of Taco restaurants using his nickname as a moniker.
On Thursday evening, for a low...low cost of only $5, Becky will be re creating the legacy of her great-great grandfather!
Don't forget to mark these exciting dates on your calendar:
Nov 30th - BLRC Bowling night at Lucky Strike Lanes in New Westminster! Tickets are $25 and Angus has really stepped up what you get for that $25. Starts at 7pm and it's important that all players attend. Angus has the tickets and we need to get em sold!
Dec 5th - BLRC Annual Christmas Mickey draw at the clubhouse. This annual reverse draw + social gathering kicks off at 8pm. (Training that night will run from 6:30-7:30) and is your chance to bet one mickey of liquor (or as many as you want) for the chance to win 100 mickeys! Each mickey entered must be accompanied by one canned good for the Burnaby Food Bank.
Boxing Day - The John Latham Memorial Over/Under rugby match kicks off at noon on Boxing Day! All BLRC members, male AND female, between the ages of 20-29 face off against all members over 30 or under 20 in a winner take all battle! The game kicks off at noon and pits the peak athleticism of the Unders vs the treachery and outright cheating of the over 30's! Post game, everyone is invited to the clubhouse for food, drinks and good times!
