Game Report
Burnaby Lake vs. Douglas Rugby Club
Feb 5/05
The Burnaby Lake Premier Women got an important win against a determined, well-drilled Douglas squad in their first week of the second half. Building on the previous week’s exhibition outing Burnaby controlled possession and territory for the first 20 minutes only to find themselves down 5-0 after a errant miss pass was poached by a Douglas centre and placed between the posts. Burnaby kept their head up and evened the score when Kary Steele gave Jessica Dovanne the ball with a little space. Jessica immediately capitalized on a gap in the Douglas defense to score.
In the second half the pattern of Burnaby attacking and Douglas defending continued but twice Julia Sugawara took advantage of Douglas overplaying pressure to the fly-half to create a gap for herself and score tries. Douglas made the game interesting when they scored on a 5 metre penalty move but the Burnaby line was not threatened again.
The win gives the Premier Women sole possession of third place in the West Coast Women’s Premier League. Next up are Meralomas at Connaught Park on Feb 12.
