On April 30 The Burnaby Lake Under 14 team captured the B.C Championship or the “Rob Forsberg Cup”.
At the final whistle the team pulled off a two point win, 31 -29, after a 5 minute goal-line defensive stance which saw our boys fight back the Cowichan attack a number of times. Sam MacDonald opened the scoring when he picked off a pass at Cowichan’s 40m line. Travis Baker converted then scored his own try after a brilliant dummy from his stand off position. Travis converted it as well. Andrew Travis scored next to bring the half time score 17 – 17. Nathan Wong scored twice in the second half with Travis Baker converting both, which ultimately proved to be the difference. Cowichan fought back to get within 2 points but our boys held on. Other players on the day were Roman Kovacic, Walter Homewood, Callum Thederahm, David Dragani, Blake Vaivaka, Diego Salgado, Zack Loftus, Matt Davey, Ryan Toombes. Under 13’s Nolan Shelley and Luke Nakatani also helped out the team on that day. Congratulations to our BC Champs Under 14 boys!!!
