According to the informatino that I have received, the following is the scoring details from this past weekend …
In the third division the entire backrow scored with flankers Mark Lavery and Anton Schamberger getting singles and #8 Ryan Banks getting a pair. Both centres too crossed the line giving Brad Major and Ronan Deane each one. Jason Wiles capped the scoring with a single convert that left the BRLC squad with a clear 32 – 7 victory.
The second division game was an interesting affair marred by many careless penalties. The home side took an early lead which left the Burnaby team playing catchup all game. Once Burnaby had shaken the cobwebs out of their head they started to make a comeback but were still being penalized on a regular basis. At the end of this short game the home team had held on to their early lead and took the win 26-12.
The first division match was an important one for both teams as a bearth in the spring premier leaque was on the line. The Rowers have played some tough matches but have shown that on a given weekend they can run with any of the teams. Burnaby have had a rough start to their season but have been consistently improving over the past month. Neither side was going to make the mistake of taking their opposition lightly. The game was well played by both sides but the Rowers were outmatched around the field, particularly in the pack. This resulted in Pat Riordan going over twice to touch down. Wing Matt Johnson scored a great kick and recover try in the end zone after and exciting footrace that had both sides entertained. Scrumhalf Craig Stewart hit a convert and four penalties to round out the Burnaby scoring. The final as reported here was 32-13 for Burnaby.
Across town at SFU the Women’s team had themselves a bit of a nailbiter. Coming of the disappointment of a loss to the Lomas last week they almost made it two in a row. Down early in the game the women forced their way back into the game with some strong play. Mandy Lewis blocked a kick in the endzone and touched it down for the try to tie the game at 22 a peice in the latter portion of the second half. This stirred the girls to a strong finish which saw another try scored before the final whistle to complete the comback and win 29-22. Tries were scored by Sabrina Neufeld, Mandy Lewis, Jody Dobush, Michelle Paquet and Rose Cobbett and Michelle Young added two conversions.
Earlier in the day the U-19 team were up against the Meralomas. The game was close but the BRLC boys fell short and lost 19-24. The scoring was done by Mauro Perizzollo, Alan Tang and David Pankratz with tries and Brendan Fairs with a pair of convertions.
