September Newsletter
Volume 1, Issue 1
Hi all,
New for this season. I will try to send out one news update about club events and Juniors news at least once a month.
September is just around the corner, which means that the club rugby season officially begins 2 weeks from now with the Senior Men’s teams kicking off September 10th, fixtures TBD.
On the other hand, as August comes to a close, it also means that every child’s insurance through BC Rugby/Rugby Canada does end on August 31st. This means that if you or your child has not received a new registration form for the 2011/2012 Season, please see myself or Greg Gilding to get one before, during, or after training of this week. Once registered, or (re-registered), you or your child are covered from the point I receive the forms through to August 31, 2012. I cannot stress how important it is to ensure everyone is registered properly for liability reasons before taking part in practices and games. It will only take a few moments to fill out.
Practices are ongoing Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 – 7:15 PM (sometimes until 7:30, no later). We are currently practicing at the grass fields by the Clubhouse (behind CG Brown Pool). When we transition over to the turf fields, I will be sure to let you know. Furthermore, every child MUST come to practice with proper training kit (shorts, cleats, mouthguard). A jersey is recommended but a shirt you do not mind getting torn is ok too. If you need a practice jersey, see me and we will sort something out for you.
A reminder that the official junior registration day is September 11, 2011. We will be having a training session from 10 – 11:30 AM. After the session, there will be a light snack provided. After the lunch, everyone is invited to stick around and watch the Twilighters Rugby Club (Over 40s) game, kickoff TBD.
Dues for the upcoming season are set at $125 (Cheques payable to BLRC). This does not need to be officially submitted to myself or the BLRC Junior Treasurer, Travis Dube, until registration day. I will be issuing receipts that are tax-deductible.
New for this season, Lewis Hart will be offering a strength and conditioning program to any one looking to put in a few extra hours in the weightroom outside of practice. A high level of commitment is required to ensure that the program can operate. There will be an Orientation Night on September 14th at 6 PM, also at the Clubhouse.
The Mini rugby season (Elementary school-aged children) will kick off September 18th on the grass fields at the Clubhouse. Practice will run from 10.30-11.30am. From 11.30-12noon we will hold registration while the kids have hot dogs and juice. Dues this season will be $80. Please feel free to pass this newsletter onto other families whom you know have children who want to try their hand at rugby.
In our efforts to increase funding to the Club and Junior programs, donations are always welcome from outside sources. Please see myself, Mike Devlin – BLRC President, or Simon Smolden – BLRC Director of Rugby for more information on how to support the club.
As we look to build our profile as the club for youth rugby, we always welcome new junior members to the club. If you have friends or family that are interested in playing rugby, simply forward on this e-mail.
As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to send them to me.
Thank you everyone and I look forward to a great season working with each and every one of you.
Regards,
Giovanni (Gio) Lam
BLRC Youth Director
