@BurnabyLakeRFC: Big Nate scores, Ryan converts! 34 to 5 for BLRC! #GoPackers
The scoreline does not accurately reflect the game as on a number of
occasions the fitness of the students had the BLRC running on fumes
however the pressure of the defence & some lucky bounces prevented
further U-Vic scores. BLRC recognizes that the return game with U-Vic
will be a true measure as the students will be playing at home &
welcoming back Nate Hirayama & Sean Duke who played so well for Canada
this past weekend in Wellington.
The BLRC started quick and grabbed the game early looking to take
advantage of the ”infamous” ferry legs overseas visitors often
experience. Burnaby’s scrum half Geoff Ryan was on form early on
slotting two penalties. The Blue and White with the early 6-0 lead,
had the Vikes on the back foot.
Burnaby’s immense pressure in the first frame led to Jeke Gotegote’s
two first half tries. The break would see Burnaby with a 27-0 lead.
At the start of the second half, the Vikes’ Brett Beukeboom punched in
a try to make it 27-5. Burnaby would respond with some impressive
forwards work that set Nathan Mantle barreling through for a try.
Burnaby produced their fifth try of the day, grinding down the U-Vic
defence then finding an overlap wide to Giuseppe Laudisio, who scored
to make it 39-12. Ryan tacked on his fifth conversion. The final
score, 41-12 bonus point win for the BLRC.
Tries by: Mike Gough, Nate Mantle, Jeke Gotegote x 2,Giuseppe Laudisio
Cons – Geoff Ryan x 5
Pens – Geoff Ryan x 2
