Congratulations to both our Junior teams currently playing this half! Both teams were away at King George Park on Sunday vs. Richmond RFC.
The U14s played their match-up in the spirit of Developmental/Junior Rugby. Due to a larger number of players, Burnaby was able to play Richmond matching their total players available. Burnaby played extremely well winning this battle of a 40 minute game. For the final 20 minutes, it was pre-determined that Burnaby would mix up their players to play with Richmond. In this stanza, the Burnaby boys were still able to come out on top. Great sportsmanship displayed by all coaches involved. This goes to prove that it is more important to just get kids playing rather than winning. Keep up the good work coaches!
The U16s faced off against an opposition that was likely jetlagged and/or lacked preparation due to 6-8 players having just returned home from touring the UK with their school team. Most of those boys toured from March 9-24. Nonetheless, the U16s showed that they are all on form and the hardwork of the past 3 seasons is finally paying dividends. Strong games by the usual cast of characters. Vikilani and Erlendson continue to punish teams with their running ability and have Provincial team selection in their cross-fire. Burnaby will continue it’s momentum and push for the playoffs. The boys have one blemish on their record this season which they have all forgotten already. Let’s get behind these boys towards the end of their season and put Burnaby firmly back on the map for Junior rugby!
Next weekend: Both U14s and U16s are HOME to archrivals Capilano. Barring any field closures, the U14s get us started with kick-off slated for 11 AM followed by the U16s at 12:15 PM. See you out there!
