The senior teams were all away this weekend with the exception of the third division who had a bye. Here are the results …
The First and Scond division teams were down in the US of A facing Seattle this past Saturday. The weather was forcasted to be rainy but it held off to allow both games to be played in the warm sun. In the first game of the day the second division took the field. It was a strong side that played and it showed. Burnaby played much of the game in the Seattle end (and apparently in someone’s house) and were rewarded for their efforts with a try from Graeme Beyeler and a pair from Barry Ebl (not a typo) and two great trys from Will Hudspith. Cameron Cross kicked four conversion and a penalty in his kicking debut. The final was 36-15 for Burnaby.
This set the tone for the first division game. The firsts have had a couple of weeks off to work on their ever imporving game, and after a very strong showing against the Capilanos last game they were looking to record their first win. An win they did. At the end of the game the score was 43-14 with single tries scored by Craig Stewart and Alex Brown, and pairs scored by Pat Riordan and Matt Young. Craig Stewart also slotted five conversions and a single penalty. To Seattle’s credit they pushed hard all game and never lost their composure.
The final senior level game of the weekend was played on the Island by the Burnabby Women. They were facing Nanaimo who have been a championship contender for the past few years and are the defending champions. The try scorers were Julia Sugawara, Anna Schnell, and Rose Cobbet with singles and Kary Steele with two. Anna also made three conversions. The final was Burnaby 31 – Nanaimo 3. Currently the women have allowed a single try this season and a single penalty kick. They have outscored their opponents 137-8 in their five games.
The U-19 boys played an exhibition game against the Capilanos this weekend as well. They beat Capilano 19-17 at home. David Pankratz scored two tries and Brendan Fairs scored one try and kicked two conversions.
