Saturday saw two games at the Burnaby Lake Rugby club at the senior level and then on Sunday there were two at the junior level. Here are the results…
Bayside was on hand to face the first division and premier side. In the first division game the score was back and forth all game with Burnaby up late in the game 27-17 with only a few minutes remaining Bayside scored two unconverted tries. The final whistle blew after the missed conversion attempt and the score was tied at 27 each. Four players with single tries were Mark Lavery, Paul Correia, Rainiel de Guzman and Andy Fell. Jamie Levchuk converted two and slotting a penatly as well.
The premier side played well but not up to the standard of some of their past performaces. They lost their first match of the premier season with a final of 18 – 13. Scrumhalf Craig Stewart accounted for all the points from the home side with a converted try and two penalties.
The Three A’s game was cancelled as Bayside was unable to field a team and the Three B’s was cancelled because only 9 Burnaby players showed up at the field.
On Sunday there were two games played by junior sides. The U-14B team played against Abbotsford at home and were defeated 0-34. Shortley after the U-16 team faced Chuckanut. They lost by a score of 7-34 with Zack Loftus touching down for the lone try and Alex Moon hitting the convert.
Next weekend the Premier, Firsts and Three A teams are all playing the Meralomas while the Three B’s have a bye. The women too will be on the West Side but will be facing UBC.
