The 4th Most Important Reminder of the Year
Dear BLRC Nation,
This is an important public service announcement regrading the 4th most important annual reminder you will have this year. *Remember, the Burnaby Lake Annual Poker Tourney is on Saturday March 29th.*
Because of my Quantum Leap like abilities, even from the keyboard of my computer in the present, I can hear the cries of people in the near future, who shortly after reading the first two sentences of this email will be audibly asking two questions: (1) “What is Quantum Leap?” and (2) “What are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd most important reminders?”
Let me address question #1 first: Quantum Leap was a serial TV drama from the 1990s with a time travel premise. If you don’t know this it is because you were either (a) too young and were instead focusing on the number of the day on Sesame Street, (b) were a recent immigrant to Canada, too concerned with fleeing war torn Tajikistan than with silly 90s TV shows aimed at nostalgic Boomer audiences, or (c) you were raised in a TV shunning religious cult based out of Bountiful, B.C.
As far as the second question goes, here it is:
– Most Important Reminder – Wife’s/Girlfriend’s Birthday: *Think about it, this woman lives with you, knows when and where you sleep, and has a current knowledge of both your finances and where the sharpest knives in the house are stored. KEEP HER HAPPY!* – 2nd Most Important Reminder – Anniversary: *This encompasses both your Wedding Anniversary (see 1st Reminder) and the Club 20th Anniversary (see 4th Reminder).* – 3rd Most Important Reminder – Election Day: *The foundation of our democracy and way of life is voting, folks. Admir might want a Eastern European style pseudo-democracy here, but I sure don’t.*
What about Mom’s birthday? Number 5. Why? She’s your Mom, loves you unconditionally and will forgive you if you forget it. If you don’t show up at the Poker Tourney there is a chance I won’t. After all, 4th Most Important is still pretty important. The Poker Tourney is our last chance to raise money for our 20th Anniversary celebration in September, so it will be one kick ass event. Support it by gambling a little of your money. See details below:
*The BLRC Poker Tournament will be held on March 29th!*
The poker tournament will be at* 6:30 pm on Saturday, March 29th at the Burnaby Lake Clubhouse.* All proceeds from the tourney will go to the club 20th Anniversary Celebration in September 2014.
The buy-in for the tourney will be $40, with re-buys available for those of us who like to run fast and loose with our chips. Novices to the game of poker are welcome. The pay out will go to the top 10% of the players.
Other events of chance will also be taking place during the tourney, including a 50/50 draw and a Toonie Toss.

This will be a great opportunity for both the club, and burgeoning rounder within you, to make some money. Come out and support your club, and remember that the more players that enter the larger the prize will be.
