This past Saturday was the BLRC home opener and the teams didn’t disappoint the fans…
With the Vancouver Rowing Club at the Burnaby field for three games the club was treated to some good results on BLOB day. In the first game of the day the Third division team lost a close one 5-10, with Ian Sinclair having a great game. The second division were taking on a team that had beaten Abbotsford the previous week 62-0 and so had their work cut out for them. They certainly were ready for it with an 18-8 win over the visitors. In a team full of young blood veteran Jamie Levchuk came out with the Man of the Match honors. In the first division game the Rowers played a strong game and never let Burnaby get too comfortable. The score swung back and forth for the first half but in the end the Burnaby attack edged out the visiting defense and Burnaby won the game 44-31.
After the game club President presented longtime supporter Dr. Hedges with a jersey for the wall of his office. Another jersey wash given out to our new sponsor The Washington Marine Group. Many thanks to all our supporters and sponsors to their continued commitment in making the BLRC a better organisation.
Later that night many members of the club went out on the town in a highly successful pub crawl. Fun was had by all in attendance and everyone is looking forward to the next club function, which will be coming up in October.
Next week the UBC Old Boys are coming to Burnaby for two matches in first and second divisions and the thirds have a bye. The women have made a schedule change and the game against island team Nanaimo will be at home.
