The past Saturday the BLRC women took on the defending champions …
Saturday morning the weather cleared for the women’s premier game. This was a rematch of last year’s championship, in which the Capilano women managed to defeat our girls. Both teams have been looking strong in the early season and the match was important to both. While the game was a little slow at times, resulting in many set peices for the forwards, it was still an exciting match. Early in the game Marley Harris went over the line for a try and Julia Sugawara converted. The second half saw the Capilanos in the Burnaby half for much of the play. Julia and Marley hooked up again for a beautiful run down the blindside with Marley dishing back in to the trailing scrum-half who went over the line uncontested. In the later minutes of the game a coaching error left the team with no subs to replace an injured player and so Burnaby was forced to rely on some excellent defense on their own line for the last 10 minutes. With many attempts the Capilanos were held out of the end zone until the whistle blew. Burnaby won 12-10.
