After practice this Thursday (tomorrow) head up to the club for some Classic Old-Fashioned Beef Stew with Winter Vegetables. There are few things more satisfying than a lusty beef stew to greet family or friends at the end of the day.
This recipe had its origins in the good old-fashioned cooking that has come out of Bessie Babb’s kitchen in Boston, Massachusetts. Bessie Babb, formally known as Bessie O’ Babb before she immigrated from Ireland in the late 1940. One night during the Great Famine (the one about potatoes) she woke from a vivid dream with the sweet smell of root vegetables in her nose. Quickly she jumped out of bed and wrote down this orgasmic recipe. For years Bessie held on to the note she wrote that night waiting for the root vegetables to flourish again in Ireland. Only so long could she wait before deciding to move to America. It was a long and traitorous journey from her little island to the New World.. but well worth it. Shortly after arriving, her recipe became a huge hit. Spreading like wildfire it swept the nation. Soon ‘Campbell’s Soup’ offered Bessie more money then she could turn down for right to the stew. Sooo… we’ll be having beef stew w/ a roll and salad.
